Alarm.com Adds Water Solution to Smart Home Security System

Sensors detect leaks and send notification to homeowner to take action, shut off water.

Alarm.com, based in Vienna, Va., has expanded its Smart Home Security solution with a water solution to detect leaks, alert homeowners and proactively respond to reduce damage.

The solution uses a combination of sensors, devices and Alarm.com’s cloud services to protect homes from significant water damage. It’s completely integrated into Alarm.com’s Smart Home Security, which affords homeowners the ability to monitor their homes through a smartphone app.

When a leak is detected, the connected water sensor signals the Alarm.com platform through a cellular connection that operates during power outages and reliability issues with broadband connections and home networking. The homeowner is notified of the leak via a text or push notification, prompting them to take action to minimize damage.

The home’s water supply can be shut off automatically via an automated water shutoff valve, immediately stopping the spread of water whether the homeowner is on-site or at a remote location.

Alarm.com’s home security solution also offers low temperature threshold alerts for homeowners when a home’s heating has malfunctioned and pipes are at risk of bursting.
