American Dynamics Is Pushing Higher Intelligence at the Edge

Product manager talks breadth of surveillance offerings and effectively managing network resources.

LAS VEGAS — Tyco Security Products unveiled a broad array of new offerings at ISC West, among them American Dynamics’ latest release of its VideoEdge network video management system (VMS) with a feature set especially designed for the enterprise space. The latest release adds a new transcoding engine that provides 14 video streams per NVR for frugal bandwidth utilization as well as CPU resource optimization and memory usage. This capability allows users to pool NVRs to provide up to 84 H.264 video streams per NVR cluster without the need for any dedicated transcoding server, something AD claims no other network VMS can do.

Hobbs said AD’s new Illustra Pro 5MP camera saves up to 30% in storage and bandwidth requirements for comparable devices, while also needing less processing power. He added that the company intends to market the Illustra name as more of a standalone brand within AD. According to Hobbs, the aspects of the surveillance market that he is most excited about right now is being able to place more actionable intelligence on the edge. “I am very big on all types of analytics to gain efficiencies, save money and improve response time,” he said.
